Our Services

ASSET MANAGEMENT  - Do you know what your risk rating is on what you hold now? Do you know what your current holdings own? We help you clarify what your risk, return and environmental/ social concerns are so that they can be systematically applied to your overall assets.   We manage assets in collaboration with the FAFN Investment Committee, and consider social and environmental screens; shareholder / proxy voting; targeted community investing, and strategic philanthropy.  This means that you and I will sign off on a written Investment Policy Statement (IPS), that lays out all the 'rules' governing how we will manage your holdings, based on your needs.

SCREENING - We use a menu that consists of environmental, social and human rights screens to name a few.  For example, we can screen out tobacco and nuclear power, while screening in companies that have affirmative action programs for women/ people of color/ gay and lesbians.  Or we can screen in only companies that have agressively improved their environmental performance.   When we set up  your IPS, we will discuss your social concerns with you.

Our approach is to consider the financial aspects of the investment, based on the stated goals in your financial plan, as well as consider the social screens most important to you. Depending on the situation, we often recommend using experienced SRI third party money managers, who we work with. Finally, we determine the investments that meet both your financial and social goals. This will typically include targeted community investments that always have a below market return. In addition we use proxy voting/ shareholder activism when appropriate to your holdings and social concerns. In today's world you have the opportunity to use your assets in a variety of socially responsible ways through banking; investing, including targeted community investments; endowments; and other financial needs.

FINANCIAL LIFE PLANNING -  We  work with you to provide comprehensive financial life planning and SRI asset management. We are a FEE-ONLY planning company and do not accept any commission work.

FINANCIAL LIFE PLANNING is the way in which you can obtain a comprehensive report that covers both where your financial life is now, as well as recommendations for realignment based on your life goals. This is appropriate for people in a situation where they are looking at a life change, and want support that will encompass both their financial situation, as well as help clarify what your life goals are.

FEES are a reality of any practice, and we make every attempt to keep them straightforward. We are FEE-ONLY, and do not accept any commission based work.

** Annual INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT FEES range typically range between .75% and 1.90%, all inclusive. Average fees are about 1.25%. Clients are billed quarterly for one fourth of the annual fee, based on the size of assets each quarter. Our incentive is to grow your assets, within the guidelines set down in your IPS. Some of the investment management programs have associated trading costs, and this is clearly spelled out in our contracts.

** There is a client minimum of $200k of investable assets.

** FINANCIAL PLANNING FEES are based on an annual plan fee, that reduces in the second, third and so on years. A typical comprehensive summary plan covers budgeting, tax review, estate planning/ legal issues, comprehensive insurance review (health, life, disability, dental, auto, home/renters, umbrella liability), retirement assets, brokerage assets, debt review, real estate and charitable giving. If we are not managing assets for you, the recommendations will include asset allocation models appropriate for your specific situation, but NOT specific investment advice. The cost for this is $4000 for the first year, and $1500 annually going forward. Financial plans and recommendations are appropriate for the person who is concerned about the totality of their financial situation, and wants the knowledge gained from a plan. Our plans use an 'executive summmary' plan and recommendations, as well as annual access to us for planning questions.
